The Marr and the Mask

shuckton In a sea of wack amateur DOOM remixes, Freddie Marr has stepped up and done it correct.

This isn't a corny Christmas mixtape or a bad R&B mashup. This is a grimy reimagining of the entire DangerDOOM album, and it's well worth your time. Favorite track: Bada Bing.

“Now that we know Freddie Marr is Tone from Pseudo Intellectuals and Tommy Quattro from 25 Metro, we can dispense with the ruse that Freddie Marr is a single person: it is two guys who can be, for me, toxic, unfunny and, frankly annoying. Tone and Tommy self-indulgently pulled a prank that no one cared about: if a tree falls in the woods, does it make a beat?

Well, at least Freddie Marr’s beats are good.

Anyway, to the point at hand, Tone contacted me and said something like, “Tom and I want to Grey Album Danger Mouse.” He thought this was very clever. Of course, he is referring to Danger Mouse’s famous mash up: Jay Z’s the Black Album acapella’s + The Beatles White Album samples = The Grey Album. Cleverness abounds. The plan was to remove the beats from DangerDOOM The Mouse and the Mask and create The Marr and The Mask.

I will be the first to say, I am no fan of the Grey Album, nor am I particularly fond of the DangerDOOM album – DOOM is astonishing, but the production always left, for me, something to be desired, so I was intrigued.

Anyway, I told Freddie Marr (God, how ridiculous of a name) that I would not be putting the full weight of LoDo Records behind the project, but I would give them a one album deal for this project that could turn into more if it is as well received as they think it will be. So, born out of this, is a new subsidiary of LoDo Records: Marrism Records… Ooof, again with the extremely clever, self-indulgent jokes.

At least the beats are good.”
